Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has offered to pay an NFL fine issued to Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, demonstrating cross-sport solidarity after the defender was penalized for an on-field tribute.
According to BasketNews, the league fined Al-Shaair $11,492 for displaying an unauthorized message during a game against the Buffalo Bills. Al-Shaair had written the name of Hind Rajab, a Palestinian child, onto his eye black.
Rajab was killed in Gaza in January 2024 alongside six relatives when Israeli forces opened fire on the vehicle carrying her family. Once the league's disciplinary action was made public, Irving stepped forward to cover the financial penalty on Al-Shaair's behalf.
