Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a contract buyout, clearing the path for the veteran guard to join the Miami Heat. Once he clears waivers, Thompson plans to sign a two-year, $13 million deal with Miami, RealGM Wiretap reported.
Thompson originally joined Dallas during the 2024 offseason on a three-year, $50 million sign-and-trade deal from the Golden State Warriors. However, the franchise underwent significant roster turnover after trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025. Coupled with subsequent injuries to Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, the Mavericks' outlook quickly changed.
By landing in Miami on a deal averaging $6.5 million per season, Thompson provides the Heat with additional perimeter shooting and veteran depth as they aim to maximize their current title window.
