Kevin Garnett Explains Why He Chose Celtics Over Lakers in 2007
Communication issues with Kobe Bryant derailed a potential move to Los Angeles before the superstar forward landed in Boston.
Before reshaping the Eastern Conference with the Boston Celtics in 2007, Kevin Garnett gave serious consideration to joining the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to a report by TalkBasket, Garnett revealed that Los Angeles was firmly in the mix as he prepared to leave the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he had spent the first 12 seasons of his NBA career. A potential move to Southern California stalled, however, because of difficulties establishing communication with Kobe Bryant.
Those missed connections ultimately factored into Garnett's decision to look elsewhere. Instead of linking up with Bryant in Los Angeles, Garnett completed a blockbuster trade to Boston, leaving one of the era's biggest hypothetical pairings on the table.
